10 Days
That is the number of days that Adriana spent in APSH(Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital), and when she was there, I was there too. We almost went out of our mind-imagine 10 days stuck in hospital-no where to go, nothing to do. Adriana had high fever on 5th March, Amli was in charged of her that day, as I had to go to work. at around 9am, he called and told me that they were onthe way to APSH-Adriana was shivering. When they took her temperature there, it was 40.7-immediately she was admitted.
They conducted blood test on her, as they suspected infection as she did not suffered for flu or cough. The result came our that her white blood count was high-around 100+(normal is around 20+). Her pediatricians(Dr Kumari) suspected urine infection as she is still with diapers and at her age that is the very likely caused of infection. We had to do urine test to confirm this. It was a chellenged time to get her urine. First we used the urine bag but we did not get enough urine to do cultured test. This test is to determined what bacteria that actually attacked her. So, Dr Kumari suggested that we did it an old fashion way-collect the sample when she urine the next time and she wanted it fast, which means that we have to force her to wee. me and the nurse bought her to the toilet and ask her to wee-wee. She was really shy to the nurse, she was hugging me all the time. I know it will take a while before she went again-so I told the nurse to leave us alone and I will see to it. The moment the nurse left, she started dancing and singing and it was really hard to ask her to wee. Finally after 30 mins in the loo with her, managed to collect enough sample for the urine cultured test. The result came back positive for her urine infection, since it was there for a long time, it has effected her blood. Dr Kumari then suspected that it might have effected her kidney as this is the next thing that the infection will attack.
We had to do ultra sound for her, it was nightmare for her and for me. She could not stop screaming and the doctor who did the procedure was nice and kept apologising to me. During that time, there was time that the dictor stop looking at the screen for few seconds, and then repeated the same thing again. When he started doing this for few times-i knew somethingw as wrong. Then he told me that he wanted to ask his colleague to looked at it and asked for 2nd opinion. Definitely something was wrong. True enough-her kidney was effected that they found out that she has reflux(this is when her urine instead of coming down-some came up again to her kidney. Overtime this is damage her kidney)
The result for urine cultured took about 48 hours, and during that time Dr Kumari cannot prescribed the correct antibiotik for her so Dr Kumari just prescribed one of the antibiotik that work well for infection, for the first 3 days she still have high fever-her temp range from 38 to 40 celcius. After 3 days still the result for the cultured urine is not out-Dr Kumari changed her antibiotik and this time it works, her temp went down. Still we had to wait for 24 hours without fever before we could do another round of test-and still the result for urine cultured is no where to be seen. Apparently lab screw up-they did not do the test. Dr Kumari was furious, she asked the lab manager to see us and explained what they did to the test. But I guess the manager could not be bothered to see us, so she sent her staff. I do not have the heart to scold him-he was so scared to see me-you can see it from his face.
On saturday-the election day, Dr Kumari told us that if things were ok, she could be discharged on Wednesday- came Wednesday she still have not finished her antibiotik, she can only go home after she has completed the 5 days course of that antibiotik-which means she can only go home after 10 days in the hospital. Imagine that. All the people in the hospital knew us-then guy from the cafeteria, the lady that owned the convenience shop, all the nurses-even the cleaning lady.
On Thursday, we did another test of her urine, blood and ultra sound. This time it even worse she screamed all the way thru her ultra sound, and they found out that she has what they called it duplex system of her kidney. In a month, she has to go another test where they going to inject dye in her urine bag and then forced her to wee to see if there is reflux there and if there is she has to be under antibiotik for 2 years and hoping that as she grows her muscle will be strong to correct the reflux by itself and if not she has to go surgery to correct it.
Hopefully that she does not have to undergoing the surgery, I pray for that everyday.

Hey,
I did not know the ordeal Adriana had to go through. My heart goes out to her.
Sorry did not get to see u before I started work in my new place, but Khalil also had an appointment with ENT at HKL and they want him to do a scope (through his nose) which am trying for it not to happen until he is a little older.
Anyway, u guys take care.
Hugs,
Aida, Ainul & Khalil
